Surgeries

Unwanted births avoided in 2 years

SNIP, via our partner organization ANPA,  joins several government agencies and nonprofit animal advocacy groups to implement a global community outreach effort to benefit humans and animals in many native communities in need.

In early 2020 SNIP received a $10,000 grant from Help Animals International (British NGO.) Our intent was to support our partner organization ANPA with helping 90 families in 5 different native communities in the region of Talamanca, Costa Rica. Specifically, we targeted the communities of Shiroles, Suretka, Bribri, Rancho Grande, Kekoldi.

We performed 369 spay & neuter surgeries plus a virtual (online) educational program.  The project proved very challenging because the three indigenous communities involved were isolated due to governmental restrictions during Covid-19. Fortunately, ANPA was able to switch the in-person educational program to a virtual one, which was enjoyed by the whole family and included different weekly topics such as nutrition, safe place, coexistence and health.

A preliminary study was made to determine the most urgent pet issues in the area in order to then address them during the project. Congratulations to ANPA, they showed the highest level of professionalism during these difficult times and were able to reach the goals set before the pandemic.
