This sweet dog was kept permanently with a tight collar on her neck. As she grew, the collar was never adjusted to her size, causing her severe skin infection and pain.
An neighbor and animal rescuer from the community talked to the family and explained them about the terrible pain that the dog was experiencing. They agreed that Lassie was taken to the veterinary clinic to check on her condition. Lassie had to go under surgery and her neck had to be sutured 360 degrees.
Unfortunately, this is a very common situation and many rescuers have to act patiently and try to educate owners so they really understand the level of cruelty in this practice. Education is the only key to avoid this from happening again in a family that once made that mistake.
Once Lassie recovered from surgery and started enjoying a new life free of a chain and a collar, SNIP sponsored her spay surgery and now she lives free with other dogs that play with her all day!
